Nevis Landscape Partnership & London Fieldworks are giving nine creatives the chance to utilise a unique artist’s field station in Glen Nevis. Each artist will have exclusive access to Outlandia for one week as part of a funded residency programme that will run throughout 2015. Outlandia is an inspiring wooden structure that evokes memories of childhood dens & hideouts. The space is truly solitary and inspiring and we can’t wait to see what our artists come up with.
Our first artist, Gillian Ness, occupied Outlandia during an extremely snowy January to explore themes of solitude, breathing, human impact, flora, fauna & ice. Gillian’s work is inspired by her surroundings, childhood experiences in the mountains of Lochaber and finding isolation in unexpected places. Whilst at Grays School of Art her work was displayed at Wall Projects, Montrose.
Gillian used her Outlandia bursary to enrol in Highland Print Studio, Inverness to continue expanding on the ideas and themes of her residency. She hopes to produce numerous prints & stitched works all based on the imaginary landscapes she created whilst living and breathing Outlandia everyday. Gillian has kindly agreed to present Nevis Landscape Partnership & London Fieldworks with a bespoke postcard from her time in Outlandia.
To explore Gillian’s work head over to her website & look out for her being exhibited in the near future all over Scotland.
We can’t wait for the next eight residencies, stay tuned!
