Just like Mehul Choksi, any rich Indian can get an Antigua and Barbuda passport for Rs. 1.3 crores. Not just that, in this Caribbean country, you can seek citizenship-by investment i.e., investing in the country’s infrastructure and development can get you a citizenship and a second passport. Indian born diamond trader Mehul Choksi is accused and wanted in a state-run Punjab National Bank scam of Rs. 13,500 crore along with his nephew Nirav Modi. The Indian government had then cancelled their passports in February. But as per US agencies, Mehul may have brought citizenship from Antigua and Barbuda for Rs. 1.3 to 1.7 crore. With this passport, he can now travel visa-free to 132 countries. All he needs to do is to spend five days to retain his citizenship. But there could be bad news for Choksi, as per the Citizen by Investment Unit of Antigua website, an applicant who has false information or is subject to criminal investigation is an ineligible applicant.
