This passport is from a time when outbound travel wasn’t at all common in China. Hence, such old/early passports are pretty rare to find nowadays. Organized outbound travel for the Chinese only started in 1983.

Passport History Expert + Author Tom Topol published several articles for notable brands. His website PASSPORT-COLLECTOR.COM and his book, LET PASS OR DIE are a goldmine on historic passports. Each old travel document was an artwork; no passport looked the same because of the beautiful individual handwriting, colorful stamps, visas, and, of course, the most curious passport pictures introduced roughly just 100 years ago.
