The Republic of Vanuatu is a Pacific island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is 1,750 kilometres (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia, 540 kilometres (340 mi) northeast of New Caledonia, east of New Guinea, southeast of the Solomon Islands, and west of Fiji.
It is currently a least developed country that was first was first recommended for graduation from this category at the 2012 triennial review; and that was due to its per capita income which was $2,540, exceeding the graduation threshold of $1,190, and to the human asset index reached 77.7, much higher than the graduation threshold of 66. Vanuatu continues to show progress and is scheduled to graduate in December 2020.
In the following interview with His Excellency Mr. Odo Tevi, the Permanent Representative of Vanuatu, we discuss the economic and resilience plans in the face of climate change adopted by Vanuatu in order to keep its progress on track.
