Which Caribbean Passport is Right for You? Grenada vs St Lucia vs Dominica vs Antigua vs St Kitts

#HTJPodcast
Hi

My name is Hanna. Today I wanted to talk about the Caribbean
Citizenship in the Caribbean vs Residency in the Caribbean?
Which Caribbean citizenship is right for you?
Are you ready?
Let’s find out!

(Pause)

First things first. Let’s define our terms. Shall we?

What’s residency? Generally speaking, it’s legal permission to live in a given jurisdiction

What’s citizenship? Generally speaking, it’s when you are granted full rights and responsibilities as a member of a nation or political community.

These 2 terms are often confused but they are both very different.

You see – many Caribbean nations offer residency after some sort of payment or investment but relatively few offer citizenship by investment. In a future episode we will discuss residency options on islands like Barbados or the Dominican Republic.

But today, I want to talk to you about citizenship by investment in 5 Caribbean nations
Dominica (pronounced Dom-in-eee-ka)
Antigua and Barbuda (pronounced An-ti-gah and Bar-bu-da)
Grenada (pronounced Gre-nay-da)
St. Kitts & Nevis (pronounced Nee-Vis)
St. Lucia (pronounced Saint Lou-sha).

We have further details on prices, processing times etc on our website htj.tax
So no need for me to get into that here. I would rather talk about what makes each travel document unique.

Ok?

Now since I have visited each of these islands myself, I could speak for hours on each but we don’t have time for that

Today I want to share 5 points to consider when selecting the Caribbean citizenship that’s right for you

Number 1. Simply counting the number of nations that allow so-called visa free access is arguably simplistic. For the sophisticated entrepreneur and investor like you, what is more important is whether the travel document allows easy access to the places YOU want to visit. For example, Grenada, which offers citizenship for $150k is the only option that offers visa free access to China and the coveted E2 visa access to the United States. So if access to China and the US are important to you? Then Grenada could be the one for you.
Number 2. If you intend to spend time in your new island home, any savvy investor or entrepreneur needs to know the tax consequences. Well, you would be pleased to know that tax residents of Antigua and Barbuda enjoy zero capital gains tax, zero estate taxes, and zero personal income taxes. Nice place to enjoy those gains from your crypto investments. Don’t you think?
Number 3. You may associate the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis with being the first nation to offer citizenship by investment. It’s also popular for crypto investors. But experts in international corporate structures know that Nevis is a great jurisdiction for asset protection. What do we mean? Well consider that –
It’s possible to combine or split trusts
Nevis trust law protects the assets of a trust from a creditor who tries to get at it through the trustee, or through the protector.
And
Intended beneficiaries can receive payments from the trust without taking on liability from a creditor
Don’t you love St Kitts and Nevis?
Number 4. In St Lucia, Dividends and capital gains are not subject to tax. At htj.tax we are fans of flag theory. Or the idea of having a diversified international lifestyle. While St Lucia can be a great home base for the international investor, it also offers an amazing social life. So think about planting a flag in a jurisdiction that offers an enjoyable social life. Festivals like the annual carnival, the Jazz Festival, Rodney Bay. It’s full of energy. Look out for me on Pigeon Island next year.
Number 5. For those who may be cost conscious, consider Dominica which is known for offering a cost effective citizenship by investment with one of the faster processing times. Also consider that all 5 of the jurisdictions that offer citizenship by investment are part of CARICOM which has 15 member states and 5 associate members. As a citizen of any of the territories you may enjoy CARICOM benefits including freedom of movement and other opportunities.

So there we are. Five factors to consider in deciding on your Caribbean citizenship by investment.

If you are a 6, 7 or 8 figure investor, entrepreneur or business owner who needs a tailor made solution from a qualified team of professionals. We can help you achieve

– the international lifestyle,

– the freedom and

– even the tax savings you are looking for?
