How To Become A Cambodian Citizen | How To Get A Cambodian Passport
Today we look at 5 ways you can become a Cambodian citizen as a foreigner.
If you obtain a Cambodian passport you will have visa-free travel to 20 countries. Top countries include Vietnam, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
There are 5 ways to become a citizen of Cambodia:
1) Citizenship by Donation.
Any foreigner who has made a donation in cash, to the national budget of $250,000 or more, for the purposes of restoration and the building of the economy in the Kingdom of Cambodia, is able to file an application for Khmer nationality to the Cambodian government.
2) Citizenship via marriage.
If you are married to a Cambodian woman for at least 3 years you can apply for citizenship.
3). Citizenship by Birth and Descent.
People who have at least one Cambodian parent anywhere in the world are legally entitled to Cambodian citizenship.
The same also applies to children born in Cambodia to foreign parents, who were born and legally living in the kingdom at the time of the birth. The child gets automatic citizenship at the age of 18.
4) Citizenship by Naturalisation.
To be naturalized you need to have lived in Cambodia for more than 7 years. You are also required to take a test, which involves knowledge of Khmer history and an ability to read and write in Khmer.
5) Citizenship by Investment.
Cambodia is one of the only Asian countries that offer citizenship via an investment program where you can apply if you invest $311,000 USD into an investment project in the country acceptable to the Cambodian Development Council.
Or alternatively a non-refundable donation in the amount of $249,000 USD.
so there you have it. 5 ways to get Cambodian citizenship if you are looking for dual nationality to fully integrate yourself into Cambodian society and get all the benefits attached to that.
